*You just finished this article*
This is post-article chit-chat…. two friends just shooting the breeze.
So while you’re here and disarmed, let me give you some advice on how to get attention (or how to market). You’ll need this if you want to make money from your music.
Market in a way you enjoy
The main reason people like this SubStack (please say you like it) is because you can tell I enjoy writing it. I mean cmon, can’t you just FEEL me smiling ear to ear? This is HEAVEN!
This was originally supposed to be a YouTube series… but I HATED it, and it showed on camera lol. Don’t be afraid to pivot if you don’t resonate with something, but make sure you find a marketing channel you actually enjoy and can be creative with.
If you can’t figure out a way to enjoy your marketing, then don’t do it. You’ll waste your own time + money.
People can sniff out when you don’t enjoy it.
Get to the point.
See above.
Break the cadence.
Do something that people don’t expect.
Like this: Boo.
Treat your marketing like your music, and break the 4-chord pattern if you want better results. Try experimenting and bring your creativity to your marketing + promotion.
Provide Value
The main reason music marketing doesn’t work is because there is no value exchange. Most music promotion just asks us to do stuff… “preserve my single”, “add my song to a playlist”, “buy my merch”.
If you want to get people to engage with your content/marketing, you have to provide value.
Like…. a SubStack to improve your music marketing? That sounds valuable. Maybe if someone did that, THEN I would do something in return, like subscribe right now while everyone is watching:
Be clear about what you want in return.
See above where I said “please, oh my gosh please”.
I couldn’t be more clear.
If you’re still reading and didn’t SubScribe then you’re a freak. But also, thanks for being here.
Those are my marketing tips.
Have a good night, friends 🫡⚔️

Great advice, Muchael!
